Strategic Approach

The IIJD provides the expertise and a comprehensive approach for systemic reform through its justice system reform initiative, and supports local capacity-building and community-based development through its development program.

The IIJD’s participatory and educational approach is based on a combined top-down and bottom-up strategy consisting of creating the space at the top to allow for institutional and systemic reforms, while advancing civil society strengthening objectives through a bottom-up approach.

The IIJD firmly believes that poverty  cannot be reduced effectively, nor marginalization eradicated, until the reasons and responsibilities for these circumstances are properly identified and dealt with. The promotion of democracy and the fight against poverty can be won only by combining institutional reforms with independent justice system establishment, infrastructure building and civil society strengthening.
